In 2020 California had many wildfires. This painting was made in Tuolumne meadows in the fall when smoke hung heavily in and above the meadows.

Claire & David regularly hike into the high sierras and paint there. These works are primarily created from smaller paintings we make while in the mountain. We then created bigger paintings from these works, giving ourselves the opportunity to work with colors and values we can choose as we work in a bigger scale.
We use the same process for our works of the California coast, portraits and still life studies.
